Have you heard that the number of Americans who work at home, or who want to is skyrocketing? That explosion your hear is the sound of people taking responsibility for themselves. According to International Data Corporation more than 25 million of your friends and neighbors have their own home businesses! Nearly 8,500 new ventures start every day. The report goes on to predict that by 2008 this number will rise to 51 million!
What is fueling the Home-Based Business Explosion? “People are hungry for more control over their lives. They long to spend more time with their families. They can no longer afford the high gas prices and are saying ‘no’ to long commutes. They are tired of dry cleaning, endless meetings, demanding bosses, and other stresses of corporate life. As Americans it was not unusual for our parents to work at a single firm their entire life. Now it is not unusual to change jobs every 2-3 years. The fear of Corporate downsizing, along with changes in technology occurring an an ever quickening pace, drive us to do our own thing. The Internet, and the transition to a service and information-based global economy all make it more possible and promote the movement toward working at home.
So, Who Works from Home? The National Association of Home-Based Businesses calculates that one in two workers will perform some work from home by 2010. Working from home allows dads and moms to quit the 9-to-5 grind and spend more time with their kids. Home-based businesses offer a new start for laid-off workers and extra earnings for retirees scrimping by on fixed incomes. People with disabilities thrive in home businesses! Women make up one-third of all home business owners, and many of them are working for the goal of bringing their husbands home from their J-O-B. But, let’s not get hurt by that explosion……..
Employers Beware -- Health care is the main obstacle to be overcome by the aspiring home worker. We need to find a solution to the problem of health care! This nation is being tied to the J-O-B by a lack of portable health care We need portable health coverage so we carry it with us wherever we go. We need to take responsibility for our own health care. We need to own the policy, not the employer! The current system costs too much, employees take advantage by not caring about the cost, after all the employer’s health insurance will take care of it! , If we had to pay for it and owned it ourselves We would be much more conservative about running to the doctor! Wouldn’t that free a lot of our health workers?
Let’s drive health costs down by taking responsibility for ourselves and owning our own health policies.
