Gas and Video Conferencing Up

Rising Gas Prices = Growth in video conferencing

The rise in gas prices fueled a large growth in video conferencing.   When I first set up my web hosting account with Kiosk, I was not aware that it included a video conference room.   When I discovered it later, I couldn’t imagine what I would use it for.     Now that I’ve taken a harder look, I can see a lot of advantages.

Video conferencing first surged with concerns over terrorism.  The second surge came with concerns over diseases such as SARS.   The current surge appears to be tied directly to the rising costs of gasoline.  For the first time organizations from various sectors are making the move to video conferencing in droves.

The soaring price for gas causes a corresponding rise in the cost of travel.  Video Conferencing has become one of the solutions of choice to reduce travel costs.  As a result, sales are once again roaring for the video conferencing technologies providers.

There are many good reasons for this surge in growth of video conferencing.  Video conferencing is an environmentally-friendly technology with a wide range of benefits for employers, individual employees and the community at large. The employer saves money every year on the organization's travel costs. By reducing work-related travel, employees can be less stressed and much more productive throughout the year, and the environment is spared from having tons of pollutants released into the air. A company's investment in video technology has a positive effect on both the bottom line and the environment.

Americans have a love affair with cars, but with gas prices out of control, Americans are not shy about looking at other alternatives.   On June 22 2006 the Bay Area had a spare the air day, on that day traveling was free on our public modes of transportation.

Why spend hours on the road, if you can have a face-to-face meeting with a business partner from the comfort of your office or conference room?  Why run up huge unnecessary travel expenses?   Video conferencing also  reduce the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by unnecessary travel.    Video conferencing is an easy and very justifiable way for companies to become more environmentally friendly.

Many businesses are becoming more proactive about reducing costs.  Many have found that with video conferencing, they can actually improve the way they collaborate internally.   Since many organizations have branch, partner and customer offices located throughout the country, they sometimes spend tens, even hundreds, of thousands of dollars each year in business travel costs. The considerable improvements to video conference technology, as well as its lower cost of entry, has placed it  on top of the list of solutions that are helping companies to avoid the high costs of business travel.

Hosting your web site with Kiosk also provides the video-conferencing benefit to small companies.  Every platinum hosting account includes your own three seat conference room!    If you have a Kiosk hosting account, you may also sell video conferencing services providing yet another source of income.
