What is Tracy?

June 9, 2006 / by denkes6231

Tracy is a centrally located Northern California community that has long held it's roots as a railroad town. Now, also a fast growing trucking hub located in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, and a bedroom community to the SF Bay Area. Tracy was founded in 1878, but grew rapidly in the last 20 years, because of affordable housing and the small town family atmosphere. Tracy is ideally located just 60 miles east of San Francisco, 60 miles south of Sacramento, and 120 miles west of the Nevada Mountains. Tracy is the connecting point between the Bay Area and California's Nevada Mountains, and the crossroads between Northern and Southern California. It's central location, rich agriculture, dry climate, and family atmosphere have attracted the attention of residents and business alike. Tracy is fast becoming an economic powerhouse as high technology companies, trucking companies and warehouses continue to move here.

Tracy has always been a family oriented community. We emphasize education, youth recreation, and a high quality of life. Tracy High School provides an excellent music education and Merrill F. West High School attracts students for the Space & Engineering Academy and the Institute for Global Commerce & Government program. Elementary and middle schools offer gifted and talented programs as well as special education programs. Athletic opportunities are also plentiful at all schools. The city has a history of supporting youth sports. when we first moved here attending the Friday night high school football game was the main social event. Organizations such as Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis work during the year to help fund special student projects during the year. Tracy has much to offer and Tracy-online provides a bridge for you to learn more about the community
